The first phase was effective November 1, 2009:
--minimum medical payments limit was increased to $10,000, but you have the right to reject all coverage.
--un/underinsured motorist limits are increased to $100,000/$300,000
--policy limits for BI, PD, UM, UIM, medical payments may be stacked to the maximum limits of three vehicles.
--umbrella/excess liability policies must have a written offer of UM and UIM coverage and insured must reject in writing if not desired.
--insurance companies are prohibited from charging higher rates to a person who has not had previous auto insurance.
Phase 2 will be effective January 1, 2010:
--minimum BI & PD limits are increased to $50,000/$100,000/$15,000
Phase 3 will be effective June 1, 2010:
--all drivers must have automobile insurance which meets minimum liability, uninsured motorist and underinsured motorist limits (insurance cards will be mandatory in all vehicles).
